You should always slice cukes, put in a bowl, sprinkle with teaspoon salt. Let sit for an hour or so then drain the water off. Add the cukes to rest of recipe. This will eliminate a lot of the water that thins down this salad if it sits or has leftovers.

I am sure there are many different ways of making german cucumber salad, but I grew up making it with English cucumbers ( no seeds) , sliced very thin, finely minced onion, an Oil and Vinegar dressing, a pinch of sugar and dill, and either whipping cream or sour cream. It’s also delicious without the cream.

You have a bot (or a person) repeating comments to boost advertising. I really wish Pinterest would restrict sites and links that do this.

I am so going to try this recipe! I've also seen a dill pasta salad recipe, where they use the dill juice straight out of the jar. That's next on my list!

Made this last night and the family loved it. It's very light and refreshing, perfect for summer. I used English cucumbers and also chose Mexican crema over "regular" sour cream because it's a bit thinner and more tangy, which we prefer.

My ex partners Omi use to make this for me but in stead of garlic and vinegar she used Frensh onion dressing and before adding the cucumbers she would soak them in salt first, squeeze out all the juices and then mix it in the sauce 😁 YUUUM!

The sugar is really not necessary and the cucumbers should be slices thinly and sit with salt for 20 mins. It goes great with grilled meat.

I always asked the same thing. I am also German We never put sugar on these salats. I like to put some raisins in my coleslaw. First time I had it I looked and said this is wiered but no extra sugar and a lot of my friends love it

I had a lot of Kirby cucumbers. I sliced them up as needed, mixed up the dressing but kept them separate. This worked out great. The dressing kept well in the fridge for days.

I'm going to try and substitute veganaise (vegan mayo or salad dressing) and Truvia sugar substitute and I bet you won't be able to tell the difference. I can't wait to try it.
